Mission

We have launched a Global Clubfoot Strategy - Run Free 2030 - with a vision of a world where every child born with clubfoot can walk and run free from disability.  Our mission is to ensure that by 2030 at least 70% of children born with clubfoot in lower and middle income countries can access treatment.

Additional Information

Around 174,000 children – 1 in every 800 - are born with clubfoot globally every year. Clubfoot is a congenital deformity in which one or both feet are turned in and downward; untreated it leads to life-long disability. Children born in high-income countries receive immediate corrective treatment and the vast majority live a life unaffected by having been born with clubfoot. However, most children born with clubfoot in Lower and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) face a different future. For those born today, less than 15% will access treatment. The rest will face a lifetime severely affected by their clubfoot – experiencing ongoing pain, limited mobility, and reduced opportunities in education, employment and relationships. This doesn’t have to be the case. On average, it costs less than $400 to treat a child; the problem of untreated clubfoot is one we can solve. With a total investment of $160 million it will be possible to treat over 1.2 million children, generating $154 billion in additional lifetime earnings and creating the capacity for each country to manage clubfoot on an ongoing basis by 2030. Our Global Clubfoot Strategy sets out a comprehensive approach, tackling the issue of clubfoot on a global scale through developing and supporting national clubfoot programs providing the highly effective Ponseti treatment.
