Chaffinch

Mission

Chaffinch works to support some of the most vulnerable children of the Kibera slum, Nairobi. We work through a local NGO (Future Stars Development Centre). The centre accommodates a small number of children and young people who are either orphans or unable to live with family. This is often short-term whilst a family home is found. The centre also runs a free primary school, providing access to education for children who otherwise wouldn't be able to go to school. Currently, we are also funding 3 young people to attend high school. Regular, nutritious meals are also provided for all of the residential children as well as every child attending the free primary school. In addition, we attempt to meet needs such as medical care, clothing, and some fun.

Additional Information

Chaffinch was founded in February 2014 and was registered by the Charity Commission of England and Wales in 2017 (no. 1173464). We are growing more slowly than would be ideal. Our child sponsorship programme is much loved by those who have sponsored children but the take-up has been underwhelming to date. We currently lack anyone with experience in many areas of marketing and this is holding us back, along with a board of trustees generally very risk-averse.

Growth-Oriented social media manager needed for small charity

Description

Duration: anything you can give! Chaffinch is looking for a social media manager to take over the day-to-day running of our Facebook and Twitter accounts. We currently have no-one confident using social media channels and the accounts have consequently been very neglected. This role would be supported by the Chaffinch founder where needed. Our goal is to see significant growth in engagement across social media, to increase awareness of the charity, and ultimately to drive donations and sign-ups to our child sponsorship programme. We do have a stringent ethics policy that would need to be adhered to, mainly surrounding the portrayal of the children we support and the local staff and volunteers. Avoiding the 'white saviour' image is vital. Desperate for someone with the passion to support a small charity and fire up the enthusiasm of others through social media.
