Additional Information

The GlocalTruck is part of the GlocalTour Global Education project, which addresses development issues such as the Millenium Development Goals (poverty, primary education accessibility, child and maternal health, combating disease, gender equality, and sustainable development). The MDG agenda is viewed as a common challenge, especially in the context of children and youth and from the point of view of global influence to their lives and development. The GlocalTour project, targeting the youth, is based on the methodology of peer education. The main methodological concepts have to therefore take into account firstly the approach to the education tools and channels, and secondly, how to integrate the peer exchange in the whole process. This is why a mobile multimedia exhibition, placed in a truck trailer, has been chosen as a carrier for both: the knowledge and information, on one hand, and the experiences and observations of the youth to be shared, on the other. An interactive exhibition, using new media (like guide-movies, displays, LCD screens with wiki-like information, etc.) is developed. It combines the ideas of students from project countries (Romania, Poland, Germany, Italy), as well as up to date information on development issues and real life examples from Tanzania. In this way, it attracts pupils in diverse ways – it makes them involved with peers in Tanzania, showing problems they have to tackle, itcalls their attention with technological solutions used to transfer knowledge and it influences them with peer education, presenting local ideas (also of their own!) in a global exhibition. The main subject of the exhibition are the MDGs (Millenium Developement Goals) – presented not as a solution, given by the decision-makers, but rather as a challenge, to which all have to contribute. It is giving information, as well as incentive. The truck will also contain local inputs, gathered during competitions among students (mini-expos, newspapers, table games). In such a way we confront the plain facts – being the basis to build knowledge and understanding, the reallife examples from Tanzania, that will show the actual image of sub-Saharan Africa and the level to whichMDGs have been achieved, as well as how it influences the daily life of local communities. A particular focus will be made on the situation of children and youth, as these are the main target groups in EU, and the exhibition has to show the examples that are interesting for them and develops their sensibility. The exhibition will be virtually guided (a guide-movie, shown by parts on the screens located in different points of the truck, with recorded audio comment) by young people from developing countries, who willtalk about the MDG related issues in a personal way, explaining what is the meaning of certain Goal for an individual facing the problems. It is also important, that the information and examples of global problems (which can seem irrelevant to the young people and do not raise their interest), is confronted with the local views on development and locallyimportant issues. It is achieved by integrating the awarded contest entries as a permanent element of the exhibition. An added value is that the students, visiting the exhibition, can observe the perceptions of global issues of their European peers. They also gain knowledge on local problems in other European countries. The exhibition is located in a trailer, travelling throughRomania. It is divided in several small rooms, with one central open space. At the same time, an approximate of 20 people can visit the exposition. There will be a booklet prepared, with the educational information on Development and Development Education, as well as information about the project. It is planned to print 15 000 leaflets. The cities visited in Romania will be Oradea, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Bucharest. Considering that Romania is one of two “youngest” MS of the EU, it isadvantageous for the country-level discussion, that such a campaign will take place in the country. The cities have been selected on the basis of the analysis of the possible impact, as well as considering thegeographical location – to reach the entire country, different regions, and in this way to enable students from different venues to participate in the exhibition. While the exhibition is being presented (several weeks in each city), there are additional, smallscale activities taking place (outdoor concerts, happenings, presentations, debates etc.) In this way, the Glocal Tour becomes a campaign, not only a one-off event. The exposition is prepared in such a way, that it allows the visit to be done both by an individual, and a group. In case of an individual, and audio guide equipment is provided, with a comment recorded to all stages of theexhibition, movies dubbing, etc. For groups there will be also a possibility to participate in a guided tour. Not only will they receive the information, but also they will have the possibility to intervene, deepen the questions that   have been brought up. It will also be a possibility to discuss in the out-of-the-classroom environment, which will be a stimulation for the students to think more openly and freely. To ensure the participation of the school groups, a broad promotional campaign will be launched on the Internet. Additionally, the flyers with the invitation, the presentaiton of the exhibition will be sent to schools and institutions. It is assumed that at least 5600 students in organized groups will visit the exhibition, plus tens of thousands of individual visitors, whose attention will be caught by this uncommon event. To promote the exhibition in the venues where it will take place, 500 posters will be disseminated in each of the 4 cities. The impact will be bigger, as the venues chosen are tourist destinations and it will be possible to reach the internationalaudience as well (English version of the guide will be available for them).
