Mission

UNESCO have cited that 250 million children in the world today remain illiterate despite attending school and that the resulting global literacy crisis is costing developing countries $129bn. Most of those 250 million desperately want to learn but poor quality education is letting them down, the Book Bus mission is to support the teaching of literacy in Zambian and Malawian schools so that every child can look forward to an education, employment and prosperity.

Additional Information

In 2017 The Book Bus in Zambia launched a new project called "I am a Reader" to help children who are struggling to read. The project is working with 20 selected schools in Kitwe where education levels have been amongst the lowest in Zambia in recent years. Our own survey of 8,000 pupils from the 20 schools showed literacy levels of only 15%. The Project aims to raise this level to 70% by 2020. To do this the Book Bus provides the schools with a unique literacy support package of books, literacy schemes and teacher training to ensure that the children receive a quality education. The project results from Kitwe will create an efficient teaching model that can be replicated throughout the country. The cost of providing Book Bus support to these schools is funded thanks to the generosity of individual funders, corporate sponsors and grant giving bodies. The Book Bus is promoting the "I am a Reader" as our flagship Project that will create positive change in people's lives through better quality education. We recognise how an authentic mission led brand can drive organisational success and appreciate that marketing expertise can help us build our brand for the future.
