Additional Information
ACAA's contributions:
–ACAA’s aims to break down one of the biggest barriers to integration into British society for refugees – the English language barrier.
ACAA provide free weekly ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes for adults of all ages and abilities, as well as a weekly supplementary school and homework club for young adults and children. We believe that by providing these educational services, we are helping to integrate vulnerable migrant groups into British society, by improving their chances of success both in education and in future employment.
–ACAA runs its services at different centres in Lewisham and Croydon and maintains a small office in Hounslow for free drop-in advice and legal services, regarding housing, employment, immigration, welfare and referrals to legal representation.
–ACAA’s contribution to international development.
Until 2016, our charity ran two Citizens Advice Centres, in Kabul and Pul-e Khumri, to provide educational services and advice for the local people of Afghanistan. In light of the evidence provided on the external evaluation, the UK AID was pleased and has scored our project in Afghanistan with an A++ (substantially exceeding expectation and excellent value for money). Unfortunately, these two centres have since been closed due to a lack of funding. However, we believe that by re-opening these centres on the ground in Afghanistan, we would be working towards a more developed, safer society for people to live in.
