Mission

Third Age Project is an innovative, high impact grass roots charity operating in the south of Camden. It provides a range of activities, support and services aimed at reducing isolation and improving the health and wellbeing of local older experiencing disadvantage, many of whom live on the Regent's Park Estate or in other high rise blocks. TAP focuses on those that experience barriers to accessing mainstream services, such as having English as a second language, being on a low income, having a disability or one or more long-term health conditions, cultural barriers, etc. The users of the charity come from a highly diverse range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The charity generates a lot of interest due to its ‘self-help’ model, i.e. some of the people it serves also play a part in the delivery of services through taking on volunteering roles, which also empowers them as they are seen to be contributing to society, challenging many of the negative perceptions out there about older people. With only one full-time and one part-time staff member currently, the charity is able to deliver quality, low cost services through its network of member volunteers and other volunteers, and with the help if its strategic partners, ranging from Alzheimer's Society to local Greenlight Pharmacy. Third Age Project was one of just 30 out of 800 applicants that made the shortlist of the 2016 Guardian Charity Awards.

Additional Information

I took on the role of Chair role two years ago, and am leading the charity through a transformative period, having improved its governance, recruited new trustees with commercial skills to its board and – with the help of a number of great colleagues – moved into new premises in autumn 2018. The charity is entering a really exciting new phase, and one of its next priorities is to get a new website up and running, but it has neither the funds nor the skills needed to do this. You’ll see from the charity’s current (old) website that it’s not fit for purpose, and it also states the charity’s old address - http://www.thirdageproject.org.uk/ We're seeking support in designing and developing a new website, catering to different audiences including our members and potential funders (including corporate funders). Going forward, we’ll also be looking at creating a communications strategy, but that will come next as the website really is our main priority. The charity is also has some exciting events coming up. Through the fantastic work of Third Age Project's inspirational manager, it has been specifically invited to take part in Tate Modern’s ‘Art, Ageing & Transition’ event on 26th-28th April, which will explore the idea of ageing as transition. We want an appropriate digital presence to ensure we can make the most of the interest in the charity this may generate amongst new audiences.
