Our project began with 39 youths from poor households and remote areas in Guyana as an online website where they could sign up and be matched to a lecturer or instructor who would provide personal online lessons in their program of interest via audio/video chatting, whiteboard and virtual ‘classrooms’ tools on the site. This innovative approach didn't just make them and their families happy, but it also overcame three problems with the provision of post-secondary or higher education in Guyana that disproportionately affect poor youths: It is either not accessible (as many live in remote areas with great distances and expensive travel between them and the few post-secondary learning centers in Guyana), not available (due to the limited number of post-secondary vocational, professional, and academic institutions in Guyana), or not affordable (due to the high costs of post-secondary education in Guyana).
