My journey into marketing isn't what you would call typical, but it has given me a unique set of transferable skills and a broad experience that allow me to view problems from a perspective that others perhaps wouldn't. I'm sure it's not too often that you get a psychologist HR crime fighter applying for such a marketing position. I am currently enrolled in two online marketing courses and am looking for an entry level role in marketing. I am willing to work for free in order to gain more experience in marketing In my last job, I spent over 3 years working as a police officer in a response team in London, responding to emergency calls from the public. This job was fast paced and I had to regularly think on my feet and improvise. Each day presented fresh challenges and required problem solving in demanding situations. I needed to be a great listener and prioritise my limited time effectively. It was vital that I had attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of my role. I enjoyed the demanding yet exciting aspects of the role however I wish to pursue a career that allows for less rigidity and more creativity. Having worked in a corporate office environment as a payroll assistant at an investment bank, I spent most of the time entering, processing and analysing data. This confidence in dealing with and understanding data is beneficial to a marketing role. Working as a sales executive gave me hands-on experience with the customer facing sales aspects of a business, which I believe is useful when entering into a marketing position. During my final year at university I collected and analysed data, presenting and discussing the results in my dissertation project. I also completed a module in statistics.
