What is Youth for Our Planet? Youth for Our Planet is the global youth movement calling for urgent action to tackle the nature crisis and the climate emergency. Why is Youth for Our Planet needed? Nature and our climate are both in crisis. A million species are on course for extinction. We have at most 11 years to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions to safe levels. We’ll only get the change we need if we demonstrate mass youth mobilisation for these issues. And we need to demand the radical changes that will tackle these crises - not what our politicians believe is possible but what we know is needed for the scale of the problem. The youth climate strikes have shown like never before the power of young people’s voices in demanding action. In 2020 governments from around the world could put us on the right path. They have five major opportunities to do this: A United Nations oceans summit The United Nations General Assembly A conference on progress on the Sustainable Development Goals The United Nations General Assembly CBD COP But only if they hear our voices loud and clear in the coming months at home in our countries, will they take the action that is necessary. Now is the time to take action and begin organising and mobilising to put pressure on our governments and heads of state. What will Youth for Our Planet do? This movement will: Grow by bringing large numbers of other young people on board. Organise events, campaigns and mobilising activities to put pressure on governments and heads of state. Tell the stories of youth environmental leadership around the world. Support organisations and young people attending major international events.
