Additional Information

North Star Alliance was initially founded through a ground-breaking public-private partnership between the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and TNT Netherlands. Since our operations began in 2006, North Star has delivered essential healthcare services and interventions to more than 1.8m clients across sub-Saharan Africa. Operating out of an international office in Utrecht, as well as two regional offices in Kenya and South Africa, North Star manages a network of Blue Box clinics, strategically situated in locations from which we offer quality healthcare access to some of the hardest to reach mobile populations in Africa. The shortage of health services for hard-to-reach communities, highlights the necessity of North Star’s unique role to actively provide these groups with essential healthcare access. On a global level, the importance of health to all lives has been recognised within the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The work North Star delivers is directly linked to SDG Goal 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages, and incorporates several specific agreed sub-targets that North Star is contributing towards. This includes ending the epidemic of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other communicable diseases; tackling mental health; prevention and treatment of substance abuse; road safety; access to sexual and reproductive health services; essential healthcare service access and improving opportunities for the health workforce. North Star’s mission is closely aligned with each of these targets.
