Mission

Emmaus North Staffs is a locally-registered homelesssness charity based in Stoke-on-Trent. We are one of 34 Emmaus charities in the UK, and one of over 350 in 37 different countries across the world. With a principal focus on the prevention of homelessness, there are various models Emmaus operates under. In the UK, 29 of the 34 are 'Communities': residential accommodation for formerly homeless people to rebuild their lives in a supportive environment whilst working full-time in the charity's business, which is centred around furniture recycling and reuse. Emmaus North Staffs does not (yet) have any accommodation but we do own the largest furniture and household charity shop in the area, Emmaus Furniture Mine in Hanley, which we acquired in summer 2017 from a local housing association.

Additional Information

Whilst our charity's business is a significant enterprise with a turnover of around £300k/year, we only have a small team of 6 full-time members of staff. Of these, 5 are operational and the 6th, myself, is the lead for the charity's HR, business development, finance, retail, and, crucially here, marketing and promotion.

Marketing Strategy & Relaunching the Charity's Shop

Description

We have for quite some time needed to have a marketing strategy for our charity's shop. Whilst we do invest as much as we can into local marketing and promotion, this is not coordinated, there is no aims or targets behind this work, and therefore we are certainly not achieving the results we need. Additionally, the C-19 crisis means our core retail customer base will have changed by the time we reopen, the local economy will be very different, and our donations could be seriously affected if people are not able to afford brand-new furniture. We believe we will effectively have to relaunch the charity shop when we reopen so I urgently need some support on a marketing strategy and a relaunch plan.
