Mission
'Natalie's Butterfly Project'
Local scientist Natalie has always planted her garden but thought she could do more. Working with the national charity Butterfly Conservation and the Annan Harbour Project the aim is to create many 'Wild Spaces' around Annan and beyond to establish a network of habitats for butterflies and moths.
Beyond this aiming to convince Dumfries & Galloway Council to sign the national 5 pledges to make 'Annan, Scotland's first Butterfly Town'
The first planter box has gone in at The Harbour Project, and I hope to do many more around the town.
I thought creating keys own Wild Space either in a space in the garden or in a beautiful planter would be a great idea. The residents could help plant (if they wanted) and help tend the plants (if they wanted to help). This would create their own Wild Space where they could come together and enjoy, hopefully the many butterflies that would be attracted.

Additional Information
The first 'Wild Space' has already been established at The Harbour Project, featured in the local press and on ITV Border.
As of October 2026, after much work, D&G Council have agreed to sign the pledge. There is still lots of technical work for them to do from their side but we are delighted to make 'Annan, Scotland's first Butterfly Town'
Having already been awarded £50 from the local community council we have now submitted funding to significantly increase these 'Wild Spaces'. One of the recipients would be Key Housing, providing sheltered housing for individuals requiring assisted living.
If we are successful we would be looking for

Any and all support would be gratefully received.
