Mission

We enable imprisoned parents to create story CD/DVDs and educational gifts for their children. Maintaining contact is proven to reduce reoffending. Our aims are: To help imprisoned parents maintain meaningful contact with their children whilst improving literacy skills for both parent and child. To reduce the stress and trauma experienced by the children of imprisoned parents. To enable imprisoned parents to help with the development of their children’s literacy skills. To enable prisoners to gain useful skills (e.g. literacy, parenting & computer skills).

Storybook Dads (and Mums) is operating in 100 prisons in the UK and Ireland. Last year we sent out over 5,000 CD and DVDs to prisoners' children. The CDs bring great comfort to the children as well as enabling parents to maintain meaningful contact through the parental activity of reading strories. This also helps them to help with thier children's literacy development. We also employ and train prisoners giving them new skills and work experience which helps them re-enter society upon release.
