Through our outreach projects, we help community groups use creativity as a tool to heal, transform behaviours and communicate effectively. Through our stimulating workshops and retreats, we give you the chance to explore story, reveal your personal narrative and be the person you want to be.The world is changing and so is the way we tell stories. Education and Skills
Social Need - Why is storytelling important? Storytelling promotes understanding of other peoples and cultures. In a story we feel connected to others and this promotes compassion, respect and responsibility. It connects us as a family and community. Storytelling ignites the imagination, instils a love of language and motivation to read. Storytelling improves listening, strengthens memory encourages creative writing and problem solving. In a story a listener can personally experience fear, love and hate, compassion, sorrow, grief and joy in a controlled and safe environment. We can heal emotional wounds or celebrate life's victories through shared stories. Our Vision A world where people respect, appreciate and learn from one another through stories and storytelling. Achievements In a relatively short space of time Settle Stories has achieved a great deal supporting children, young people and families in developing their storytelling skills as well as bring some of the nation's best traditional storytellers to the Yorkshire Dales. Settle, the market town where we are based has also experienced increase profile through our press coverage and this has resulted in filling up the B & Bs in the area at festival time. As the festival takes place out of the usual tourist season this is a very important contribution to the local community. Settle is a small rural community and does not have much access to the cutlural diversity in our society at large. So bringing artists from diverse cultural backgrounds has also been very beneficial to the local community which is very mono-cultural. The festival is run by a part time professional and many volunteers. The community has really come together through the volunteering opportunity and festival is very much owned by the community.
