Additional Information

Adventure Under Sail Ltd, is a charity for developing life skills of young people using the sail training ship TS Pelican, which is based in Weymouth, Dorset.  Tall Ships Youth Adventures are an adventure activity for young people between15-25 of all abilities.  It includes instruction in all aspect of sailing but the benefits to the individual goes far beyond this.  They use the experience of being at sea principally as a means to help young people learn about themselves, discover hidden strengths, talents, and develop confidence as well as understanding the value of working as a team. Our sail training programmes are compatible with residential and leadership elements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and ideal for teambuilding and leadership training. In this current economic climate an increasing number of young people are finding hard to feel inspired about their futures.  Depression amongst young people in the UK is amongst the highest in Europe with even 1 in every 25 young people in education reported as being worried and anxious about prospects and their future.  This places untold pressure on the youth and future of our country.  This does not include the high percentage of young people that are not in any formal education, are not in employment or undertaking any formal training scheme.  Youth unemployment has reached an all-time high and we as a country face the prospect of many of our young people becoming a lost generation.  The detrimental effect on our country will be devastating economically and for the development, welfare and education of the generations that follow them. The headlines speak for themselves and we all agree that something has to be done.  The fact is that something is being done and there are opportunities that exist which can help develop young people, empowering them to push themselves and learn the value of team work, confidence, self-discipline, self believe and enhance their prospects in the future. At Adventure Under Sail Ltd we provide these opportunities through ocean voyages of discovery and Tall Ship Youth Voyages such as the Tall Ship Races on board the square rigged sailing ship Pelican of London.
