One of the biggest challenges almost all of our causes face is raising the funds they need to support and grow their organisations. FoodCycle has come up with a new idea for community fundraising and Maverick Digital has given them to the tools to capitalize on their plans.

Over the last year and a half FoodCycle and Maverick have proven to be a fantastic team. Having helped FoodCycle win substantial grant funding with a brilliant video pitch and built them a brand spanking new website, Maverick Digital has now created a community fundraising toolkit to help FoodCycle achieve on-going financial support by giving their community a new way to participate in their mission.

FoodCycle’s mission is to transform surplus food into nutritious meals to feed those affected by poverty. FoodCycle currently has 17 food hubs around the UK and is growing rapidly thanks to Maverick’s support.

FoodCycle’s new fundraising idea called Meals that Matter was launched last week. Meals that Matter is a way for anyone to raise money for FoodCycle by hosting a dinner party and inspiring their guests to donate.

Maverick has created a beautiful 20 page guide for hosting a Meal that Matters, with meal ideas and recipes, party games and inspiring facts about FoodCycle.

Maverick has also designed the fun coasters (above) for guests’ use at Meals that Matter.

The Meals that Matter programme works by finding an inspired host, who then invites friends/family/colleagues/neighbours over for dinner and cooks up a tasty meal. FoodCycle encourages hosts to try to create a menu with ingredients that need using up, with seasonal and fresh food. And at the end of the night the host asks guests to donate, and FoodCycle uses the donations to serve more meals across the UK.

Juliet, a Hub Leader at the FoodCycle Islington Hub, shared her experience of working at a FoodCycle food hub, “Often you’ll get people who are too shy to even ask for food but then the next week they’ll be coming up and asking if they can join in the cooking session! I think by giving vulnerable individuals a role in their community, it improves their personal wellbeing and their health. It gives them a chance to socialise with people they wouldn’t otherwise talk to in the week.”
